NetXploreIt server consists of four main components: Application, Discovery database, Syslog database, and a Syslog listener. The above figure represents those components and their links with each other, the network, and the clients. Below are descriptions of functionality and operations of each component.
Application: runs the main application logic for:
- Discovery of device information (using SNMP protocol).
- Build up of network topology.
- Storing of device inventory and network topology in the “Discovery database”.
- Collecting device configurations.
- Managing and authenticating user accounts.
- Responding to clients requests by querying the databases.
Discovery Database: Stores device inventory and network topology, as well as user accounts information.
Syslog Database: Stores network devices’ Syslog messages, and pre-indexes data for fast query response.
Syslog Listener: listen for syslog messages, parses the messages into a unified format, and publish parsed messages into the syslog database.
